Beauty and Non-Beauty Favorites | January 2015

MAKEUP | Beauty Blender
Since I wrote a long review on this product, I won't bore you with words. Wins this month, hands down.

NAIL POLISH Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy in "All or Nothing"
This is the perfect light pink shade for all year round, and it has quite the bonus. It has the lasting capability of a gel manicure.

HAIR CARELush I Love Juicy Shampoo
Product build-up? Greasy hair? No worries, this chemical-free shampoo will be your best friend.

SKIN CARE | Origins Make a Difference Plus+ Moisturizer
Daytime, nighttime, anytime. This moisturizer is the stop shop moisturizer for oily to combination skin.

BLOG | Rush and Teal
This January discovery of mine is not one to disappoint. Every post Allie writes inspires me in some way, whether it's to take up running again or to clean out my wardrobe. And I don't even have words for how beautiful her pictures are. No words.

SONG "Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran
Ahh, Ed. The "Thinking Out Loud" music video is absolutely gorgeous to watch (although I don't think he will be joining "Dancing with the Stars" anytime soon,) and the song makes me quite the hopeless romantic.

BOOK Humans of New York by Brandon Stanton
I present you with the picture book for adults. A few pages a night of this inspirational read lifts me off into a very happy sleep.

VIDEO Sweatshop
I waste my time on the internet quite often, but the documentary, Sweatshop, was the best thing I watched this month. The documentary is about three Norwegian teenagers who travel to Cambodia to discover what it's really like to work in a sweatshop. If you love clothes, this is something you really should watch.

APP | Buffer
Buffer is the perfect app for bloggers who are addicted to Twitter. Plan your tweets ahead of time, and take a well deserved break.

What are you January favorites?

  2. I need to get the Beauty Blender. I've been wanting to get one for so long but always ended up forgetting to get it! And Ed's Thinking Out Loud is my favorite song of all the time :')

  3. YASSS TO 'THINKING OUT LOUD'. I didn't care much for it initially, but when I drove my friend home, this song was playing and I wanted to change the station, but she didn't let me. And I enjoyed it. So much that I spent the next few weeks obsessively listening to that track.

    Excuse me while I cry over Rush & Teal's photos ;-;

  5. Straight to the point! I like it! I straighted using the Beauty Blender this month and it's great! I don't like cleaning though and it has already stained.

  6. Brilliant post! I love the photo, it's great! My favourite music at the moment is 'Cool Kids' by Echosmith! x

  8. Oh, so the Facebook "Humans of New York" thing is actually a book! It looks really interesting, and I love books to just look into occasionally, so I'll definitely check it out! The nail polish is gorgeous, I have a similar colour from KIKO - makes me want to paint them right this moment c:

  9. I Love Juicy sounds so... juicy! Haha. It sounds like a pretty clarifying shampoo though, and I'm not sure if it'll agree with my already-dry scalp. I watched Sweatshop a week or two ago and it's the best thing I've watched all month as well. Kind of mind-blowing how that kind of stuff plays out. Not only with clothes, but probably with food and the majority of things we buy and own.

  10. Thank you, Paige! That means a lot coming from you as I love all of your posts and beautiful pictures as well :) I actually had a lot of difficulties with this pictures as I think I'm rubbish with flat-lays! I had the worst grey overcast on it as well, so I spent over an hour trying to edit the background to white...at least someone could appreciate it-haha!

  11. One day at my wedding I hope to dance to "Thinking Out Loud"..sighhh I'm a such the hopeless romantic (emphasis on the hopeless.)

Rush & Teal has the most gorgeous photos, and I love her short, yet practical posts!

  12. Haha, I spend forever trying to get some white background photos on my desk, but it is like 1/100 chance in getting any good ones! x

  15. It's wonderful isn't it! People say it's too pricey, but when I think about it, it still costs less than a high-end face brush :)

  16. The Beauty Blender is definitely an essential product for any one who loves liquid foundation :) I prefer it over a brush as it blends the foundation seamlessly, and you don't have to worry about the bristles clumping up. "Thinking Out Loud" is such a beautiful song x

  17. I know right! If you're not a blogger, you truly don't understand how many times it takes to get a nice picture! I take anywhere from 20-80 photos to get one picture for a post. Take loads of time, and then even more time to edit, haha

  18. The Beauty Blender does such a seamless, natural application of foundation, much better than any brush I have tried :)

  19. Yes, he came out with a book as well! The pictures are the same ones as his Facebook page, but it's still something I love so dearly. It's the perfect before bed read to feel inspired for the next day :) Light pinks are some of my favorite to wear, and this one definitely wins for both color and lasting power.

  20. Ed Sheeran has a lovely voice, and I think HONY does such a great job at portraying the lives of those we often don't get the chance to meet! I am so honored that you decided to nominate me, but unfortunately I don't do tags anymore :(

    ReplyDelete
  21. I love reading Brandon's portraits on HONY, and it is by far my favorite Facebook page. The book has the same portraits, but it's just such a special thing to own :) Every picture has a different story, and I agree his pictures are incredibly stunning!

  22. Revlon's All or Nothing is such a gorgeous shade for anytime of the year, and the lasting power is the best I've tried so far. Same for "Thinking Out Loud"! It's such a lovely song to listen to :)

  23. Glad you like it, Kat! If I'm completely honest, I very rarely read entire posts when there are so many paragraphs, so I thought this would be easier to read :) The Beauty Blender is such a great tool for liquid foundation, but yes, the cleaning sucks. I clean mine every night as I don't like having foundation in it when I apply my foundation. Staining is definitely going to occur, though using a bit of Johnson & Johnson's baby shampoo seems to remove most of it. I am going to try Dr. Bronner's Magic Castile Soap as I heard it's an extremely affordable dupe for the Beauty Blender Solid!

  24. Haha, I Love Juicy definitely smells very citrus-y! It probably won't work well with your dry scalp though as it leaves your hair feeling soft, yet squeaky clean which may not be the best thing for you.

I think we like to distance ourselves from the reality of what happens in third-world countries. I thought this documentary did a great job at providing us with a glimpse into the realities of those who struggle to survive on a daily basis when we are truly so fortunate. After I watched that, I was looking at the labels of everything from place mats to clothes in my house, and whenever it said "Made in India" or "Made in Vietnam." I couldn't stop thinking about the people behind them. I think in my mind I wanted to believe that it was a machine making all of these things, but in reality, there are people just like you and me who essentially provide us with all the things we often take for granted.

  25. The Beauty Blender is one of the best things I have in my collection. I much prefer it over any brush and I recently found out that it can even be used for pressed powders. I'm in love!

  26. Agreed! The Beauty Blender gives a much more seamless, natural application than a brush. Just curious, but how do you use it for pressed powders? Do you still dampen the sponge?

    ReplyDelete
  27. I don't know if it works for all powders and I really don't want anyone to ruin their powders, but I dampen it like normal with all the excess water squeezed out. Then I just swirl it into my NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat Powder Foundation. The top surface hasn't been ruined and I can still use a normal brush with it too!

  28. I was actually looking for something similar to Tweetdeck for my phone, I'm going to try Buffer!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Definitely give it a go, and tell me how it works out for you!
