A California Spring Lookbook | April Showers

Southern California has been getting some bipolar weather bundled up in a jacket right now. For the one or two rainy days we have in April, I get to bring out my light winter gear again, which makes me happy as I much prefer fall and winter clothing over spring and summer attire. However, the key to keeping this look reminiscent of the spring season is to lighten up the colors. My cousin is wearing a thin heather grey shirt with a tan colored raincoat. I wore this same raincoat when I went to Monterey, California over spring break, and it did me well against the cool sea breeze. We finished off the look with a pair of dark wash jeans and black ankle boots complete gold hardware on the sides.

A California Spring Lookbook | Crisp and Classy

For the second installment of my spring lookbook, I thought I'd go a bit preppy. I love myself a crisp white shirt, and the collar and structured outline adds a bit of subtle sophistication. For a person with a fairly monochromatic wardrobe, I rely on white to add a bit of freshness to an otherwise dreary outfit. A pair of black oxfords add a level of classiness to the look without substituting comfort while the jeans compliment this outfit by toning it down for everyday wear. The final touch of a sleek backpack adds practicality with a touch of sophistication.

A California Spring Lookbook | Winter into Spring

I am absolutely in love with photography, the whole process really. Whether it's finding the right angle, arranging items in an (attempted) artistic matter, or editing a whole batch of photos, I love it. However the majority of my time, I take pictures of inanimate objects: face creams, nail polish, blush, you name it. It feels great to get a good shot, but the rewarding feeling is short-lived and almost empty in a sense. Once in a while, I am fortunate enough to have my cousin/best friend visit (promise guys, I have other friends too.) We are the same age, so we have been able to live through every step of our lives together, although at times on opposite sides of the country. The lovely lady you see in all my fashion posts, including this one, is my cousin Nicole. She has a strong passion for fashion that began in elementary school, and for the past two years, I have been happily recruiting her as the "model" for my blog. Every time we shoot, I see her confidence grow in front of the camera and mine behind the camera. I love how easy it is to shoot with her as we know how to make it a fun experience. I comment on her awkward smile, and she comments on my even more awkward squats (in my defense, I am trying to get a good shot!) Thanks to her, she reminds me what photography is all about, telling a story in the most subtle ways.

For this first look, we put together an outfit that shows you how to transition your winter wardrobe into spring. Blacks make up the majority of both our closets, and there's no reason why you can't incorporate that into your spring attire. One prominent spring '15 trend is black and white, and it was seen on the runway from designers like DKNY, Public School, and Thakoon. The key is finding black and white clothing with interesting prints, textures, and silhouettes to elevate the look. Another widely spotted trend was shirtdresses. Designers like Altuzarra, Charlotte Ronson, and Rebecca Minkoff used twists like double high slits and drop waists to re-imagine this classic.

My Everyday Necklaces

I think we all have those pieces of jewelry that we enjoy wearing on an everyday basis. For me, it's necklaces, and here are the four that I keep on rotation.

The Key | I saw this adorable key necklace at Forever 21 when I was shopping for a small welcome aboard gift for me and my cousin on a cruise we were taking this summer. I was immediately drawn to the tiny design with a hint of bling. Forever 21 has some of the most affordable jewelry I have ever seen, and this necklace was no exception at a little over $2. I mean seriously guys, it does not get any better than this.

The Heart | This was a gift from my aunt this Christmas (another matching piece my cousin and I have), and I love it to pieces! It is sterling silver so I can wear it in the shower and not have to worry about taking it off. However, the chain somehow broke, so I'm going to take it back to Kohls to get it fixed as I really want to start wearing it again.

The Two-Toned Circle | This necklace probably looks really dirty to you, but I promise it's just scratches. I've worn this one more than any of the other necklaces here, so I wasn't surprised when I saw the wear and tear (sadly, the chain also broke on this one too.) It is a beautiful two-toned necklace featuring a silver half circle and a gold half circle. I always get compliments when I wear this as people assume it's one circle, but when they see it split apart, they are so surprised (see how easy it is to amuse my friends.) This was a present from my cousin last Christmas, and she told me she bought it from Urban Outfitters just in case you wanted to look for a similar one.

The Bar | This is by far my favorite jewelry find from Forever 21 as I had been searching high and low for a gold bar necklace for a long time. I just couldn't fork over a huge amount of money for a simple bar, so when I saw this one at Forever 21, I immediately snatched it up and knew I won big time (and yes, it was only a little over $2 again. I still can't get over the price!) I love pairing this with a chunky sweater or a plain long sleeve shirt as the simplicity of both the clothing and necklace compliment each other perfectly.

A California Fall Lookbook Part Five | Blackout

Black. The universal color in the world of fashion. When done properly, an all-black outfit can instantly elevate one's style and make a person appear more confident. The key to wearing an all-black ensemble is contrasting the shades and textures. By pairing my new favorite faux leather and suede jacket on top of darker shades of black make the jacket standout as the central piece of the outfit. Black is also an extremely slimming color, great for those months when we add on a few extra pounds eating cookies and other sweet treats. A medium pink lip goes great with this dark outfit and either a high ponytail or tousled hair down add the perfect finishing touches to this chic outfit.

The weather has finally start to cool down here in SoCal, and that means I get to start wearing my favorite long sleeves shirts and scarves. My cousin is wearing a plum scarf with intricate designs that add the perfect touch for a more stylish outfit. Whether it's going to school or going out shopping on the weekend, this casual, comfy outfit will leave you feeling effortlessly chic.
