A California Spring Lookbook | April Showers

Southern California has been getting some bipolar weather bundled up in a jacket right now. For the one or two rainy days we have in April, I get to bring out my light winter gear again, which makes me happy as I much prefer fall and winter clothing over spring and summer attire. However, the key to keeping this look reminiscent of the spring season is to lighten up the colors. My cousin is wearing a thin heather grey shirt with a tan colored raincoat. I wore this same raincoat when I went to Monterey, California over spring break, and it did me well against the cool sea breeze. We finished off the look with a pair of dark wash jeans and black ankle boots complete gold hardware on the sides.

5 Minute Spring Hairstyles | The Effortless Side Braid

When I think of spring, I think of fresh, natural style. I like my hair to reflect that, so I am starting a three part series called, 5 Minute Spring Hairstyles, in which I will show you three extremely easy hairstyles that take less than five minutes. The great thing is that all three hairstyles work on any length hair as I did these on my cousin who has short hair. The first one is something I'm sure most of you know how to do, but I had to include it as it's just too pretty! I wore a version of this everyday in my 8th grade, but I did it awfully tight which was such a shame as this looser version, which I like to call the effortless side braid, is so much prettier.

1. Part your hair to one side (I like to only part about halfway down my head to "fake" bangs.)
2. Grab a section of hair from the front of your head, about an inch thick, and divide it into three sections.
3. Loosely french braid your hair down the side of your head at a downward angle, but add different size sections of hair each time to create a textured look.
4. Pin back the braid with two criss-crossed bobby pins and then hide the pinned backed section with hair from the back of your head.

Spring Break 2015

If I could sum up my spring break in one word, it would be the beach! My family and I took a trip to Monterey, California, a beautiful coastal town. The weather was perfect, nice and cool with a slight breeze. We ate lots of delicious seafood and enjoyed walks along the coastline. I also spent a few days visiting colleges, and I am so happy that I have finally decided where I will be going for the next few years as that hurdle is now over with. To finish off spring break with a bang, I went with some of my senior friends to Corona del Mar Beach on the last night to celebrate this whole college decision process finally coming to a close. We ate yummy steak kabobs and other types of Greek food from Olive Pit Grill as well as some delicious Sprinkles cupcakes (best red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting ever.) I literally dropped mine in the sand and still tried to eat the pieces with no sand in it. It was really that good. Oh, and as you can probably tell, I finally have a season appropriate profile picture! That was one successful spring break.

The (Un)favorites No. 2

Everyone seemed to enjoy my first (un)favorites post, so I am very excited to write a second! A few of these products I received from friends and a couple I bought myself, so it shows that even with research, sometimes popular products just don't turn out in my favor.

Elf Essential Waterproof Eyeliner Pen | This is probably the worst liquid liner I have ever tried! I saw the faintest trace of black when I used it for the first time and the tip is so tiny, making it very hard to draw an even line. Elf seems to be very disappointing in terms of the eye makeup I have tried out so far.

Loreal Lineur Intense Felt Tip Liquid Eyeliner | I had such high hopes for this liner as I searched high and low for good drugstore liners. The tip is the problem area for me as it is extremely long and flimsy. If you are a pro at liquid liner, this may work out for you as it's the blackest, most opaque drugstore liner I have yet to try, but for an amateur like me, it was just way too hard to draw a thin, even line. I also didn't like how sticky the product was as I found it transferring to my eyelashes, making it quite dangerous when I went to curl them. I do have to say though that the lasting power is phenomenal, so if you can make it work, it would make a great product.

Bare Minerals Prime Time Brightening Foundation Primer | I love the regular clear gel primer, but this brightening one just didn't seem to justify its high end price. One of the main purposes of a primer is to increase the wear time of the makeup, but this thin primer just didn't make much of a difference. It did add some subtle "brightness" with a slight shimmer but nothing that a highlighter couldn't do.

Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner | This was another product that I had high hopes for. Unfortunately, my oily lids didn't appreciate its supposedly smudge-proof (more like smudge-prone) formula. It is also marketed to have a waterproof formula that by all means didn't pass the test as I had smudge marks on my lower lash line almost everyday. No water needed. I also found this product to dry out extremely fast, forcing you to buy a new liner in a matter of weeks.

Earth Science Purifying Facial Mask | I enjoyed this product the first few times I tried it as it gave a nice tingly effect (it's also a vibrant, blue mask, so I felt pretty cool looking like avatar,) but recently, I found it to give off more of an unpleasant burning sensation. In the past few months, my skin has also become drier, and this clay mask only adds to the dryness.

A California Spring Lookbook | Crisp and Classy

For the second installment of my spring lookbook, I thought I'd go a bit preppy. I love myself a crisp white shirt, and the collar and structured outline adds a bit of subtle sophistication. For a person with a fairly monochromatic wardrobe, I rely on white to add a bit of freshness to an otherwise dreary outfit. A pair of black oxfords add a level of classiness to the look without substituting comfort while the jeans compliment this outfit by toning it down for everyday wear. The final touch of a sleek backpack adds practicality with a touch of sophistication.

Beauty and Non-Beauty Favorites | March 2015

MAKEUP | Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser
Concealing dark circles. Brightening under the eyes. Highlighting the bridge of your nose. This stuff gets it done.

PERFUME | Daisy by Marc Jacobs Spray Pen
Daisy was one of my favorite birthday presents, and I love its subtle, floral scent after wearing it for a few hours.

BLOG | Her Lovely Life
Ugne is not only one of the sweetest bloggers I know, but she is also such a talented writer and photographer. She just started up a gorgeous new blog, Her Lovely Life, so this is one you will want to check out!

BLOGGING 'SECRET' | Twenty-One Designs
A free blog design service? No way. Well, I'm here to tell you about three lovely bloggers who have started this design shop free of charge. My new favicon was created by Paige, and I'm in love!

ARTIST | Travis Atero
I'm a huge fan of music covers, so when I discovered Travis Artero on Youtube, I seriously fell for his smooth voice.

TV SHOW | We Got Married
I'm a big sucker for Korean shows, and WGM (though cheesy) is so adorable with the arrival of two new couples.

CLOTHING | Cat PJ's
My cousin and I bought matching cat pj's from Forever 21 that say "less worry more furry." So soft and so cute!

What have you been loving in March?
