Review | Maybelline The Rocket Waterproof Mascara

Let's be real now. Asians are not known for having the world's best lashes. However, I don't think of this as a curse, but instead think of it as a challenge, a challenge to find a mascara that gives definition, doesn't clump, and holds a curl. Maybelline The Rocket Waterproof Mascara has granted my wishes.

Packaging | This bright blue tube of mascara that resembles a rocket feels great in the hands and even better on the lashes. The pink lettering on the outside has slightly faded, but that's the very least of my concerns. I love how the wand is fairly large and has short bristles throughout which makes for an even application.

Application | I use between one to two coats which results in fully defined and voluminzed lashes. Though it does not clump, a few lashes may stick together. This can be easily solved by gently combing them through with a clean wand. I also enjoy pairing this mascara with my Maybelline Illegal Legnths Mascara as the The Rocket does not do anything to lengthen my lashes. I have a pretty difficult time keeping my lashes curled as they naturally point straight forward, but at least the waterproof formula (I have not tried the regular formula) does a great job at holding a curl for a good 8+ hours.

Formula | I would not categorize The Rocket as neither dry or wet, but it's a nice in between. I've kept it longer than I should, but it has still not dried out. I purchased this mascara in "Blackest Black", and it sure is very black! (Though I honestly can't tell a difference between the different shades of black for mascaras. Am I the only one?)

Price | At $7.95, this is an extremely affordable mascara that will surely not disappoint.

What's your favorite mascara?

  1. Argh, I remember when everyone was raving about this mascara! Grr to asian lashes, they are very much a curse for me haha -_- This one sounds amazing, though it still hasn't been released here and it's been so long since it first came out I have a feeling they won't be bringing it over :( Such a shame because I do really want to try it!

  2. Asian eyelashes! lol I totally understand you. I actually kind of neglect my eyelashes when it comes to makeup. I tried maybelline mascaras before and there were pretty awesome considering my asian lashes are so easy to tame. lol

    A whole lot of serendipity

  3. Thank you for almost always being the first to comment, Tasha :) But that is horrible! Maybelline surely needs to step up their game in Australia :(

  4. Recently, I haven't been using a whole lot of mascara as well. This one is just my go to on those days when I feel up to the little extra effort of curling (multiple times. oh, the pain.) and then applying mascara :) Maybelline is definitely a great brand for mascara.

  5. Ah, yes, I relate to you on the whole asian lashes thing. Before I started wearing glasses full time (ha, i used to never wear my specs during school, even though i was blind as a bat!) I used to use the Bourjois mascara which lengthened and added volume. I don't know if they still sell it but if they do, it's the dual wand with a black and white end. Nowadays, I don't bother too much with mascara because it catches my glasses lens everytime I blink, booooo. I've also heard that Benefit Cosmetics is releasing a mascara that promises to be be a "game changer", so keep your eyes peeled for that! xxx

  7. I will definitely look into the Bourjois mascara! I wear glasses at home and every once in a while outside, but mascara is the most annoying them when it comes to wearing glasses! My lashes would constantly bump up against the lenses like you described, and I felt like I couldn't see properly-haha

  9. A lot of people recommended the Maybelline Falsies to me, but it just didn't work for me! I think mascara is win or lose situation :)

  12. I definitely can't tell the difference between different blacks in mascara either, haha. But then again, I don't really wear any!

  13. Heh, that's totally a "when life gives you lemons" approach to Asian lashes :P
I love this mascara, and I find the reverse to be true for me--I don't really notice any volumizing, but tons of lengthening going on AND I NEED IT BECAUSE I'M TERRIFIED OF FALSIES, SO I NEED ALL THE LENGTHENING MASCARAS I CAN GET.

This whole '50 Shades of Black' business needs to stop. I can't even tell the difference, tbh.

  15. I'm currently using Maybelline's falsies mascara and I really love it! so, I'm definitely up for trying another one of their mascaras. This one sounds great :)

  17. I am honestly wayyy to lazy at 6 in the morning to even attempt at putting at mascara on, but for those odd occasions when I'm up to it, this is the one I turn to :) I just prefer waterproof mascara to eyeliner as almost every single eyeliner I've tried has smudged on me, and I come home all surprised (even though I shouldn't be at this point) looking like a little panda...sigh.

  18. If you love some lengthening, I would recommend the Maybelline Illegal Lengths as it has those little fibers that give you gloriously long lashes!

Yes, 50 Shades of Black ain't fooling us.

  19. It's amazing isn't it, and for such a great price! I love how the curl lasts all day as well :)

  20. I bought the Flasies about a month ago after I heard so many good recommendations. Maybe I got a bad tube or something, but it added no volume or length to my lashes, so I stopped using it :( Great though when I want natural lashes! The Rocket works wonders for volume and holding a curl, so I would definitely recommend it. If you try it out, tell me how it works for you!

  21. That's a bummer! The waterproof version probably does a much better job at holding a curl. The Falsies didn't work for me even though I heard so many great reviews :(

  22. Yes, it's definitely my favorite out of the Maybelline mascara that I've tried so far! If you do decide to try it out, tell me how it works for you :)

  23. Sorry, I meant to say that my lashes were not easy to tame. :D

  24. It sounds really great - but the price difference here in the Netherlands is absolutely ridiculous... It retails at 15 euros here, which is almost 17 dollars >_< I'll probably give it a shot when there's a sale (which reminds me, in fact there IS a sale going on LOL) but otherwise I'm not too sure.

  25. Oh no, $17 is ridiculous for a drugstore mascara! I can definitely see why you haven't tried it out yet :(

  26. Sounds like a great mascara x

  27. I've been wanting to try this out but I'm no fan of plastic wands... I swear by my Falsies one ;)

  28. Definitely my favorite from the drugstore at the moment!

  29. Unfortunately, the Maybelline Falsies actually did nothing to my lashes, no volume, length, or anything, and it was extremely dry. I bought it because I heard so many people rave about it, so maybe I got a bad tube?

  30. I love this mascara, but getting bored of it a little bit. This one lengthens mine pretty well, but does not quite give me the volume I want. It is funny how the same products work differently on different people.

  31. I always love the lancome hypnose drama, but i can't spend that much money on mascaras all the time. I remember really liking L'oreal voluminous original. I am thinking about going back to that.
